A Daring Rescue
A Ship Stolen / Three Strokes of Luck / To Dare the Fates

Recap of Events from the last two session: Sorry this one is a bullet format.
-In a brazen effort the party boarders and seized an airship in the Underark. The fighting was cabin to cabin and fierce since the ship was crewed by Gnomish slaves and Drow Enforces.
-The party was aided by ‘Kelin’ Kelinidinistra one of Zaria’s younger brothers, an apprentice wizard who was in possession of a weapon of strange properties he told Zaria her mother the matron Mother of the Drow City was sacrificing Kelzen their older brother along with the other slaves and that she possessed an ancient artifact the slave traders wanted. He also told them how a rival House had kidnapped a foreign Eladrin and planned to use her knowledge to raid the homeland of Roqfurt’s people.
-In the final fight to take the bridge Jaak fell in battle his soul ripped from his body by a powerful necromantic relic-sword wielded by a Drow Fighter.
-A search of the ship revealed Kane a Fire Genasi Warlock that been enslaved as a pleasure slave for the Drow. Freed he sought to find his way out of the Underdark by aiding his liberators.
-Zaros teleported aboard the ship after her Sendings to Caldarous and Jaak failed and learning the situation leant aid to the party and a launched a distraction by attacking the Drow garrison.
-Zaria and Malachai snuck into House Aly’aer without setting off traps and made their way to the treasure room. Zaria became a Polar Bear and attacked her Mother and Four Handmaidens of Lloth, and a human and an Iron Golem who were in heated discussion over the Artifact a plane looking metal orb. The distraction of the bear caused chaos and fighting between the polar bear, the human and his golem, and the Drow. The Handmaidens became yellow waxen figures, Yochols the literal demonic Handmaidens of Lloth during the fighting Malachai grabbed the orb and the Polar Bear picked him up and they made their escape. Chased as they were the bear was faster as soon as they cut a corner Zaria took true form and Malachai used dimension door to escape.

-Aurora and Axiom infiltrated the Temple of Lloth and resisted the temptations to steal from the Goddess’ altars scattered in the undercroft. They dealt with inept guards with the clever use of the Silence spell and force of arms. Then they made their way above to the sacrificial altar. Six Acolytes, Drow females in training to become Clerics were channelling together to summon a fiend from the Negative Energy Plane. The creature devoured all magic directed against it but a clear head under pressure by the Cleric and the bravery of the Barbarian prevented the fiend from devouring its meal of slaves. The Acolytes attempted to channel the fiend into attempting to defeat the adventures but the Drow were prepared to slaughter helpless slaves not do combat with hardened adventurers the Barbarian freed the Drow Sacrifice who retrieve a sword from Axiom and the three butchered the channellers without mortals to tie it to the material plane the fiend was ripped back to the negative energy plane. Axiom and Aurora freed the slaves and lead them onto the airship.

-Kane and Roqfurt snuck into the back of the rival house to save the Eladrin in the house. The house was trapped though and although the men bypassed the traps on the door knobs the trapped stairs teleported Malachai into the lair of one of the four powerful daughters that ran the house. A powerful Tempest Cleric she dueled with Roqfurt as he pressed on to the next level but he forced her to flee with the power of his Lightning Arrow. Kane was bewitched by another daughter of the house while he was looking for Roqfurt. The Silver Witch entranced him into her parlor and attempted to kill him when Kane threw off her spell of Suggestion. Another Cleric she blasted him her most powerful necrotic spell but Kane survived and blasted her with his Hellish Rebuke turning her into a smoking corpse. He went to look for another way through but could not find one he went to the next elk meeting the Red Lady another fearsome daughter and fled outside the house. Roqfurt meanwhile found the Eldadrin suspended by Quintessence a powerful substance altering the flow of time on whatever it is used on. His sunblade became trapped in time’s grasp. After looking around he found blackened windows in the darkness and knocked them out to let in the glow from outside. The guards below were struck by glass shards and made to sound the alarm until Kane flying around the palace blasted them both with Eldritch Blast and went to assist Roqfurt. He successfully dispelled the magic of the Quintessence and collected the drops of it. The Eladrin slightly stunned but freed thanked her rescuers and followed them to freedom.

-The airship rescued all three parties but luck didn’t hold for the pilot the entire time all the maneuvering drew the ire of the other two Drow airships who attempted to cut them off but we’re not skilled enough. One Drow airship missed a turn and air brake maneuver and crashes into the citadel crystal unleashing its energies in an explosion that caused the airship the party used to crash early in the Underdark.

-A short time later the party gathered everyone from the crash and set out for the surface and into the wilderness. An encounter with Orcs in the dark lead to the accidental deaths of 14 slaves, 15 more fled when they saw the slave die and their bodies canabalized for meat. The Eladrin left in the night unable to stomach the behavior. The Party looted a bag of strange gems and a deck of cards. Kane Identified them the next day while being carried by the slaves.
-The party decided to play with Fate:
Zaria gained much power, respun the events of time and changed one event, and earned the ire of a God and a Demon Prince.
Kane gained some power but something troubling seemed to affect his outlook on life, he also became aware of an entity of the lower planes has become aware of him in a hostile fashion. A Fire Genasi Knight pledged himself into Kane’s service. He also gained the right to ask a questions truly and receive knowledge and wisdom to answer the question.
Roqfurt lost his worldly possessions, gained by right a Kingdom, was cursed, and was whisked away in a flash of ash to places unknown, he also gained in his abilities.
Malachai had his soul ripped from his body to a place of divine imprisonment then had his soul ripped from time and stuffed back in his body.
Axiom gained some power, was Challenged by an Avatar of Death and defeated it. And has become tied to Fate for a time. And gained a powerful enemy in the mortal realm.
Aurora gained 25 flawless gems, 3 wishes, one which she used to gain the best possible light armor.

A glitch in the power of the card deck caused the deck to refill again.

The party’s perch on the cliff quickly became contested by the an impossible sight. Cruising through the air as smoothly as if it sat on the water’s surface was a long wooden craft with a long sloped hull. A whispered conversation the cliffs or superior Drow darkvision might of been the cause but the craft closed on the party.

A squad of bugbear slave-soldiers jumped overboard to attack the party, one missed his step and plunged into the abyss. Soon the whole team was mixed up in a melee with the bugbears while a Drow wizard slung spells at them from the ship. The tables turned quickly a with a few quick critical hits and a Cloudkill spell that blocked the party’s exit.

A second Drow appeared, a young one no more than a teenager seemingly he called himself Kelinidintra ‘Kelin’. A name familiar to Zaria though he was no more than a young boy the last time she saw him. A brief sceptical reunion occurred and the Kelin told Zaria her brother Kel’zen was to be sacrificed at the Temple of Lloth, a rather typical fate for most male Drow. She lead the party onto the ship to seize it for themselves and save Kel’zen, and hopefully it would have room to save the original missing slaves. Malachai cleared the deck of the enemy ship with a ferocious fireball.

A quick leap off the cliff onto the deck of the ship as it started moving again. Kelin quickly explained that the Drow had recently captured the refugees of a destroyed Svirfneblin city, many equipped with strange artifacts and technology. Stealing it for themselves the Drow of House Aly’aer were planning a daring raid against their long term enemies the Elves. They only needed a target but that information was hidden inside the head of a High Elf in the torture chambers of House Noquduis [Sacred Whips] the long time rivals of House Aly’aer [Legendary Blood].

The debate took a moment too long as elite Drow warrios and slaves attacked the boarding party from another part of the ship. A brief melee followed and although Roqfurt was knocked out by a poison arrow the rest of the team dealt with the enemy quickly. Aurora rent asunder one warrior with her greatsword while Jaak dispatched another with his rapier. Kelin dispatched with the slaves a blast of black energy from his strange staff weapon.

The next part of the ship a series of apparent cabins another Drow team lay in ambush. Sailors and assassins who apparently aboard as passengers attacked with a globe of darkness but the magical darkness was banished by Roqfur brandishing the sword he looted from Calderous, a Sun Blade, a simple hilt with a blade made of the compressed energy of the Sun. The bright Daylight banished the darkness and put the Drow team on the disadvantage as assassins attacked with Kamas and Spiked Chains. While the Drow tried to divide the party and wear them down individually but even with a crippled arm Aurora dispatched her foes with furious headbutts of her horns. Malachai dropped enemies mercilessly with cleverly used Magic Missiles. Zaria transformed into a Lion and mauled one of the assassins. Jaak ducked back into the last room and took down an assassin that chased him. Axiom kept everyone alive. Roqfurt used the Sun Blade to deal terrifying cauterizing wounds. Aurora survived an ambush by the assassins and forced them to try weaker targets. A seconds later the team was mopping the Drow blood off the floor and preparing to seize the next part of the ship.

Recap 1/2

The hunt to stop the slavers continued through time and space. With the aid of Calderous and his mysterious sponsor the party teleported from the outskirts of Verigrad into the wilderness unknown. Due to an arcane miscalculation they appeared in the air over a steep hillside. Everyone tumbled down the hillside and caught themselves except for one man. Calderous fell over the edge of the cliff at the bottom of the hillside plunging two hundred feet down to the base of a huge waterfall.

After a brief delay to search for the missing Fighter the party quickly hurried west to the mouth of the canyon taking the safest way down the mountainside. There they caught sight of the first signs of an unnatural storm forming as sparkling motes of embers fell like snow. They hurried to the water’s edge at the back of the canyon where water crashed down into a huge pool and disappeared. Roqfurt found signs of Calderous and discovered several of his possessions then found his unconscious body.

Before they could do more a Young Black Dragon awakened by the thud of Calderous’ fall on the roof of its underwater den attacked the unaware adventurers. On silent wings it came out from the curtain of the waterfall and strafed the party with its acid breath. The acid soaked Jaak almost killing the Assassin outright as his clothing and items sloughed off him with his flesh. The Dragon was blasted by the radiance of Zaria’s Druidic magic and Malachai’s fireball. Aurora and Roqfurt attacked with blade and arrows when the Dragon pounced on Malachai with its claws and acid soaked maw. Roqfurt, Malachai, and Axiom saved Jaak. Axiom and Roqfurt healed Calderous but the Dragon took the opportunity to attack the weakest man, Calderous. In a savage attack the dragon rent the human asunder, alas Axiom’s healing spells had not yet been replenished from the warehouse fight.

After several vengeful attacks Roqfurt dealt the killing blow sending an arrow into each of the dragon’s eyes killing it instantly. With the storm worsening the party collected Calderous’ possessions and some resources from the Dragon. After a brief search they found the cavern river behind the waterfall and the dragon’s lair under the waterfall pool. In the lair the party found a treasure trove of items, gold, art, and relics of times bygone.

After a nights rest and they traveled all day long deep down a tunnel. Aurora jumped in the river and was swept along rapidly but swam with experience caught herself on the edge when she heard a loud roar of falling water. The others ran to catch up after a long slog and some exhaustion they made met up with Aurora and continued on to examine the source of the sound.

A huge waterfall disappearing into a bottomless chasm met them. And a huge tower of rock only visible by the glowing light of greens, blues, and violets lit a huge rock tower the size of mountain. A city of evil suspended over the abyss. A sight Zaria recognized well as home.

The Story so far. . .

At the tavern aptly named the Last Stop, Caldarous and Jaak met with the five best adventurers they could find in the area to propose a mission. Somewhere in the city some group was kidnapping the poor and defenseless off the street and smuggling them out of the city some how. A secret patron put forth a large pile of platinum for the party to hunt down and stop these actions.

Caldarous who had some information about their location showed the way to the warehouse he suspected. The Drow Zaria transformed into a spider and crawled into the building confirming the presence of the slaves as well as a host of guards. Roqfurt, Aurora, and Caldarous ran across the roof tops to try and gain top side access to the warehouse but after a few mishaps they alerted a sentry. Roqfurt as an expert marksman took down the watcher with a single arrow from his short bow. But both he and Aurora fell off the rope climbing the final leg to the roof of the warehouse.

They joined Jaak, Zaria, Malachai and Axiom getting ready to breach the back door. Jaak disarmed a deadly trap and together with Aurora they burst into the building. With the twilight sun setting at their back the Slavers immediately noticed them and charged in a line to defend their booty. A hundred slaves shackled and collared with heavy chains were in the warehouse.

A bloody battle ensued. An Enforcer hired by the slavers held the party’s attention for just long enough for a Slaver Mage to finish his teleportation circle and start sending slaves through. Since they were chained together each row of 20 slaves teleported as one. A Slaver Captain fought with the Enforcer but had his arm blown off by a lightning bolt from Malachai while the Enforcer was finally felled thanks to the team work of Axiom, Jaak, and Aurora but Aurora dealt the finishing blow cleaving the man’s head off. Roqfurt stopped the Slaver Captain from fleeing with his arrows and Malachai trapped him with magical webs. The remaining slavers died as Calderous repelled in and dropped three Slavers with the quick work of his longswords. Axiom, Zaria and Caldarous tried to run to make it to the Slaver Mage in time to stop any more slaves from escape but once 80 slaves were taken the Mage saw the fighter and cleric coming at him and decided to save his own skin and jumped in the teleportation circle sealing it after himself. Zaria mauled a slaver in her form as a Lioness and the other slavers panicked at the sight fleeing toward the other door but were killed by their own trap they forgot about by a large load of falling timbers crushing them flat.

20 slaves were saved. Though 3 died due to Aurora’s blazing rage. The rest were each given 2 platinum pieces as hush money and freed.

Malachai examined the inscribed runes on the ground was able to find out enough to tell where the slaves were teleported. But the runes were in Draconic which he could not read so Calderous took the information to his patron.

After the prisoners were interrogated the group learned that about 1500 slaves had been moved this way over the course of a month by this group to the location. For what purpose that remains a mystery its hard to imagine what slave labor 1500 slaves could be needed for but the Slavers had been busy. After a brief argument about whether to kill the prisoners just after Axiom revived the Enforcer the prisoners were summarily executed after some minor difficulty and Aurora collected their skulls. Which she was keeping stuffed under her blouse, rotting.

After a quick looting the building was set on fire by an unknown party and the group left to meet up with Calderous. He took them out to meet a wizened old crone who had sketched the marks into the ground and powered them up. Whether by accident or malicious mischief the circle was scuffed slightly and the party was taken to the wrong location. Calderous the first one through was not seen when the rest teleported through they appeared in midair above a steep hillside that tumbled off onto a cliff. As they fell and rolled Roqfurt and his ring of feather falling fell lightly to the ground and stopped the rest of the party rolled party of the way down the hill with everyone catching themselves except for Malachai who kept rolling until he was able to web himself to the ground with magic as he was falling just before rolling off the cliff.

A brief examination of the area revealed the cliff overlooked a large box canyon they could get down to by walking around on the west side for a few hours. A water fall poured down from the east forming a pool at the bottom of the box canyon. Roqfurt spotted tracks that looked like Calderous had rolled down the hill and fell off the cliff they he spotted the fighter’s iconic black trench coat floating in the water but no sign of the man himself.

To be continued…
